Student leaders will have to deal with subordinates which will be fellow students, decision making, time management and contingencies. Course objectives include: Understand principle-based tactics and assault philosophies as they apply to the assault process in a variety of SWAT situations. These include but are not limited to assault of a fixed structure, searching large areas, and clearing suspect locations including confined spaces. On both individual and team levels, all personnel will understand which tactics to execute and why, as well as how to execute the tactics. Gain a better understanding of how to manage personnel, equipment, and time in a high stress environment. Discuss the differences between hostage rescue tactics in a variety of very dangerous situations- such as with a barricaded suspect, multiple suicidal or terrorist adversaries in a large structure, and a lone gunman in a small structure. All officers will understand the principles behind and the techniques for use of non-lethal tools to assist law enforcement personnel in the process of conducting a SWAT mission. Some tools we will discuss include the use of flashbangs, robots, cameras, and the K9 team. Each officer will understand the advantages and limitations of each tool and how to incorporate each tool into the assault process. Finally, all officers will be introduced to the After Action Reviews (AAR) and will be required to conduct an AAR after each training day.
